a profile of six people who survived the atomic bomb attack on hiroshima, japan. when i first read this book in elementary school i learned to fear the “red menace”, became thankful for bomb shelters and developed renewed zeal for crawling under my desk during air raid drills. recently i discovered the latest edition included an additional chapter where the author returned to japan forty years later to visit with the original six hibakusha (explosion-affected persons) and i decided to revisit the story. a must read for anyone who doesn’t remember cold war atomic fear…
