not as good as “ender’s shadow” but definitely better than “speaker for the dead” so in the battle of sequels it wins. i enjoyed it enough to jump right to third book in the “shadow” series but figure i should diversify a little. from the author’s afterword: indeed, the game this novel most resembles is the computer classic “romance of the three kingdoms”, which is itself based on a chinese historical novel thus affirming the ties between history, fiction, and gaming.
