on holiday until january 3rd – happy new year!

owwww, wow! there is a santa claus after all and this year he brought me a brand new powerbook!

we’ve been on a movie tear the past two weeks. most recently we saw supersize me and while i don’t eat fast food its got me thinking about the double vietnamese coffee and two bowls of ice cream i eat a day…

i’ve finally found a no-carb ad that didn’t annoy me – it went:

no carb diet!
no cheney
no ashcroft
no rumsfeld
no bush

for the second week in a row we snuck out on a date and saw a movie, this time sideways. while not incredible, i was surprised to find that the character miles stole all my best pick-up moves…

when a coworker asked me why i thought the total cost of ownership for unix was lower than windows i responded like this:

this is something of a religious question but my answer goes something like – unix is an older, more mature operating system than windows and was designed for continuous operation and to serve multiple users. very few tasks outside of tuning kernel parameters require a sys admin to reboot a unix box to affect edit configuration, apply security patches or install/remove software. unix has an extremely rich set of administration tools, scripting languages and even the shell is a programming environment. unix is much more transparent to the administrator via log files, admin tools and when something bad does happen its usually traceable and not just sweet blue screen with matrix graphics.

lastly, people who administer unix systems are generally more technical and have broader expertise (read smarter here) than folks who tweaked a win95 registry setting and then mistakenly thought they were system administrators…

i think syndrome’s hair do might have been inspired by the heat miser and if he had ended up one on one against frozone singing “i’m mister green christmas…” it would have been too much, much too much!

in the jack jack fight with syndrome i would contend jack jack displays no super powers but only typical baby behaviors.

samuel jackson voices a ghetto rappin’, ice making, speed skating super hero – thats super!

advertisements, previews, a pixar short and then a splash page pushing tasty snacks in the lobby told us ‘your feature presentation will begin momentarily’

then …after a bit too much quiet anticipation a small child’s voice echoed through the theater questioning ‘daddy, how long is momentarily?’

either it was incredible or we don’t get out enough but after seeing the incredibles on friday night i’m going to spend the rest of this week talking about the experience.

but you don’t worry there won’t be any spoilers here (as if anyone i know hasn’t already seen it)…
