londoners use the expression “chocky” to describe heavy traffic which i assume is derived from chock:

|ch äk|
a wedge or block placed against a wheel or rounded object, to prevent it from moving

which once again proves the english command our mutual language much better than we do.

all i need to know to conclude we’ve left about half our children behind is the result of a gallup polls that says 45% of americans believe the earth is less than ten thousand years old…

a quote from st. augustine that is not only applicable to issues of faith:

in matters that are obscure and far beyond our vision we should not rush in headlong and so firmly take our stand on one side that, if further progress in the search of truth justly undermines this position, we too fall with it.

it seems to me there is a pattern that kids go through where for a long period of time they test every imaginable limit until your just about to toss them on the doorstep of a local orphanage and then at the last moment they redeem themselves with three or four days of the most loving and sweet behavior.

ethan is spoiling us now with one of those redeeming periods and its fortunate for me that he doesn’t realize he could pretty much ask for a pony right now and i’d go out and get it for him.

i think the worst thing about being a pessimist is how often your right.

that president bush executed the first veto of his presidency to kill federal funding of stem cell research is perhaps the most compelling evidence that this emerging technology has great, great promise.

i want to buy a car. not because we really need it but because it would save me buying a $200 portable dvd player. remember, i’m the guy who bought a $2,200 powerbook accessory for my $400 ipod.

you would think it easy to talk me down but i guess natalie was tired or off her game as i left this morning and told her i was going to buy the car because her argument was “you can’t, because i need to pick the color”.

this site would be much more entertaining if i were less reluctant to burn bridges. today especially, your missing out…

our beach house was without an internet connection. so tld and i borrowed one from a fancy high rise hotel. their signal wasn’t strong enough to pick up in a parking spot so we had to park illegally in the aisle. ten minutes after cracking open our powerbooks a security guard walked past our mini-van and started an animated conversation on his walkie talkie.

tld: i think we should go.
me: why? what do you think he will say?
tld: i’m not afraid of what he’ll say, i’m afraid of what you might say.

perky barista: how is your day so far?
me: good, but i’m about to spend the next six hours in a car with two kids under three.
perky barista: oh. well enjoy your coffee.
