over the past week our daughter has given up sleeping which means involuntarily so have we.
so this louis ck interview on the daily show brought tears of laughter to our eyes.

i heard an interview today with a local woman who is authoring the house of testosterone blog to discuss the challenges of being the only female in a house full of boys.
not surprisingly, she said one of her greatest frustrations was getting her boys to open up and talk with her. she told the story of a school dance where her son had danced with a new girl but wouldn’t say anything about it beyond a word or two in response to her repeated questions. then, in a car just ahead of them was a gaggle of girls where everyone was clamoring to talk at once. she found herself longing for the frenetic conversation she was witnessing in the car in front of them.
as i thought about this it occurred to me that in spite of all the males this woman is living with she would never know how to talk with them… i have been on the delivering end of those one or two word responses many times and know that it was much more about audience and topic then my gender.
anyone watching my instant message client on tuesday (after the monday night bcs title game and during the steve jobs keynote at macworld) would have experienced giddy prattle the likes of which that car full of blushing teens would have been proud.

yesterday i did my once every two year clothes shopping (i would have said biannually but there appears to be great confusion whether or not biannually means twice a year or once every two years) and again was pleasantly surprised to discover that while i may have put on weight, i still have to buy pants in a smaller size.
even better news is that i’m now bottoming out the size chart and will have to continue packing it on to remain clothed.

without question, honesty is the worst and least appreciated policy.

its inspiration like this that makes every monday morning feel a bit like christmas…
“its not like if they let [coworker] go they would pass the savings around to the rest of us. they would probably just hire another incompetent person who also happened to be mean spirited and we’d just end up worse off.”

after all my computer ills this week, gnome-sudoku was the only thing keeping me from throwing them all off the second floor deck.

late last night when i lost the second computer in a single day i would have given a blank check to anyone offering to fix either.
never would i have expected that two exceptional customer service experiences, one at intrex, the other with an apple genius, and forty dollars later i would have both machines back in service.

in all the time i’ve owned computers i’ve never had a hard drive crash or a hardware failure (at least that wasn’t a result of me poking around inside the case) and yesterday i had both.
my dell 4600 linux development box lost a power supply (i hope) and my apple powerbook g4′s hard drive puked.
i manage my entire life on my mac. i don’t even know if i’ll be able to find my way in to work today…
