depending upon who’s statistics you believe new zealand is between first and third on the list of countries with the highest per capita ice cream consumption. the united states is always first or second.
since i eat about two times the 22 – 26 litre per capita, annual average, i think its fair to say i have a discriminating taste for ice cream.
so, i find it odd that the u.s. and new zealand rate one and two in ice cream consumption given that the products in each country are barely recognizable as the same thing, except for the being cold…

bigger is not always better.
i can remember my first trip to the circus on a school field trip. it was a giant three ring affair with stuff going on in each ring but from the last row of the bleacher seats it just looked like a bunch of ants scurrying about and did little to capture my interest.
we just took the kids to their first circus and it was an intimate affair that each loved for their own reasons.
ethan liked the clowning and acting (because there was a dark, evil night and the power of the dark side already runs deep in our son). logan perked up when the dancers and acrobats came out.
so the entire family (even, cynical old dad) loved the weber bros circus and our ring side seats (new zealand standard, cheap ‘elevated’ seating – ha!).

to elaborate on yesterday’s post. i was not the recipient or sender of a shutterfly ‘suggested greeting’.
in fact, i am being completely screwed out of father’s day because father’s day its observed in new zealand in september and we are leaving in august….
mother’s day, interestingly enough, came on the same day in the united states and new zealand.

dad, not a day goes by without me realizing how important you are in my life. thank you from the bottom of my heart.
touching, if only it wasn’t a ‘suggested greeting’ from shutterfly…

still not convinced hillary clinton is self serving, power hungry and represents some of the worst american politics has to offer? after all the previous say anything to be the nominee, now this…
clinton open to v.p. slot, lawmakers say
by raymond hernandez
senator hillary rodham clinton has told supporters that she would agree to be senator barack obama’s running mate if he offered her the vice presidential spot.
mrs. clinton made the remarks in an afternoon conference call with members of the new york congressional delegation, according to two lawmakers who participated in the call.
mrs. clinton prefaced the remarks by noting that she would do “anything to make sure a democrat would win” the presidential election in november, said representative carolyn mccarthy, a democrat from long island.
“if senator obama asked her to be the v.p., she certainly would accept that,” she said. “she has obviously given some thought to this.”
representative nydia velasquez of new york city recalled the call with mrs. clinton similarly, saying: “she said that if it’s offered, she would take it.”

beauty is not in the eye of the beholder. my four year old can recognize it, or its absence with near 100% accuracy.
delusion is in the eye of the beholder…

so either our kids have really embraced belonging to a commonwealth or they manipulated us in to making cake and having balloons. bottom line, our house had cake, ice cream and balloons to mark the observation day for the queen’s birthday.
