gone camping… 2009.06.29

…be back on july 13th.

rest in peace 2009.06.26

first farrah fawcett, then michael jackson.

it seems like in one day the 1970s and 1980s both came to an end…

mostly 2009.06.24

natalie and i were talking about overall how good we have it. as we listed our fortunes i mentioned that we even liked each other and then as i’m prone to do, added a sarcastic crack “mostly”.

she squawked “mostly” and then jumped right in to tell me a story she had read in the paper.

when she finished i responded “i’m sharing my love for you and you tell me the news, that explains mostly”.

and so goes another “mostly” romantic evening in our household.

global perspective 2009.06.23

they were people much like us all the while we were singing “bomb iran, bomb, bomb, bomb…”.

and while the death of neda agha-soltan is indeed sad, she will provide the u.s. media with the glamorous image it requires to drive a news story.

lets hope her death will be as transformative in u.s. policies as it is in iran.

peace be with you.

neda agha-soltan

father’s day? 2009.06.22

my father’s day card started out “thanks for marrying mom…”

natalie says there was no prompting but since our kids don’t write and everything is in her hand writing its a bit suspect.

sleaze-bay 2009.06.19

after my latest transaction with e-bay its hard to believe i ever thought they offered a quality service…

only child 2009.06.18

there is no argument compelling enough to sway a five year old that they wouldn’t want to be an only child when it comes time to split the beaters from mixing chocolate chip cookie dough.

whale wars 2009.06.17

if i weren’t married with children and the crew came off one tenth more competent, this is what i’d be doing: sea shepherds

twenty four hours and no news 2009.06.16

it has become completely impossible to watch the news.

the folks at fox have always been too far right, but the colored president has them in such a state they don’t even offer up lucid debate any more.

msnbc seems to feel obligated to match fox crazy but to the left.

and cnn is so busy chasing shiny objects like flat panel touch screens and the latest in social networking that they no longer report the news but instead run commentary on all the content the lemmings have sent them via facebook and twitter.

in fact, i think its fair to say that if your social networking site is one of the dozen or so don lemon is asking for you to contact him with, that channel has jumped the shark.

the best and the brightest 2009.06.15

for forty two years folks have been walking along the durham tobacco trail and encountering a gigantic dinosaur in the woods just off the trail.

i can remember the first time i saw this dinosaur through the winter trees how excited i was. silly things like giant dinosaur statues loose in the wild are guaranteed to bring out a smile in me.

the dinosaur had certainly suffered out in the elements but it seems high school graduation was the death of it. as i’ve mentioned before, i was a bit rowdy and stupid when i was a teenager, but even all my friends and i would have known what a low-brow prank this was.

the early bird 2009.06.12

this spring its been a great delight sharing my enthusiasm for plants and gardening with my children.

the only problem is we may never enjoy a harvest from the garden because the kids can’t keep themselves from shredding the basil by eating the leaves right off the plant or from picking the peppers before they mature beyond the size of a toothpick.

do unto others 2009.06.11

you know what is most interesting about this video? that instead of stopping this jacked up bird from attacking folks, they set up recorders and camped out to watch it happen to others. what the hell is wrong with people? ahh, and michael i can’t ever see a bird attack and not recall how one took you out.
