its amazing to contrast the plane at honolulu with the plane at newark. i was much less enthusiastic boarding this plane.

after landing in kauai we had a short drive to our hotel. on the way we noticed a particularly beautiful setting and that turned out to be the entrace and grounds of marriott's kauai resort and beach club where we were staying. we were quite satisfied with the accomodations.

wailua falls, filmed in the opening sequence of fantasy island seemed an appropriate photo to include on the 'travels' page. i could think of a lot of cheesy things to say at this point but the eighties have past and its best to leave it that way.

we hiked up the volcanic crater at diamond head and got a great view of the sprawl of waikiki and the diamond head lighthouse (seen here - i'm sparing you the sprawl of waikiki).

we laid over for a day in oahu before flying to kauai. we didn't have to stay that long but since we were so close to pearl harbor i wanted to visit the uss arizona memorial. you'll notice that there aren't any pictures here (or nearly anywhere else you look) and there is good reason for that. these unusual trees with no leaves or flowers except at the ends were all over oahu.

its especially sweet to leave for a tropical destination when snow is falling in your departure city.
